Disorders of the Eyelids

The eyelids can be the source of many conditions including: blepharitis, styes, various cysts, basal cell carcinomas, droopy eyelids, turned eyelids and turned eyelashes and many others.

This is a chronic eye condition that causes dysfunction of the oil glands in the eyelids called the meibomian glands. This results in evaporation of the tears easily from the eyes and can lead to dry eye and inflammatory conditions of the cornea. Scaly and flakey deposits can build up on the eyelashes. This condition occurs more commonly in those who suffer from acne rosacea. Treatment involves intensive lid hygiene, use of tear supplements and occasionally antibiotic eye drops. Flax seed oil has been shown to help this condition.
